Avoiding Information Overload

This course was designed to provide a lot of information to the learner in a way that is easy to digest. I had in mind those who may be at risk of cognitive decline and want to empower themselves with actionable steps. This type of course might be found on the website for a neurologist, gerontologist or other health professional.

Designing this course required me to research, compile, and arrange the information so that learners would ultimately feel uplifted and inspired to take action. I organized the content into four main categories related to brain health and utilized the pre-programmed interactive activities available on Rise that would best foster learner engagement for the specific kinds of information being presented.

After taking this course, learners will be able to:

  • differentiate between foods that support brain health and those that lead to cognitive decline and other health problems

  • implement a plan for adding healthy movement into their routines

  • choose activities that keep them socially and mentally engaged

  • develop healthy sleep habits

On a meta level, I wanted to design an experience during which users would simultaneously learn about and participate in cognitive activities that boost brain health.

Full Development

I utilized many of the pre-programmed interactive activities available on Rise, including flashcards for micro-learning within a module, tabs, and write-in reflection questions.

Short videos were also included in the course that expanded upon the topics and introduced learners to other resources available to them.

This matching activity helps learners review the information and serves to exemplify the kinds of games the course encourages users to play for cognitive engagement.

I sought bright, compelling images to include throughout the course to best engage learners and to create an uplifting experience.
